OBEDIENCE
Many people got their first exposure to dog training years ago, when everything was done by rote and there was precious little joy involved. The object then was to make the dog “mind” the trainer, and the result was a process no one enjoyed – not the handler, and certainly not the dog.
At DSK, we believe dog training ought to be rewarding
and satisfying – not a grind, and certainly not a duty.
In stark contrast to the old style of training, Kim
incorporates methods that make training interesting
to the dog and mixes things up enough to keep
dogs – and handlers – from getting bored.
You also won’t spend half the class standing around
at Kim’s. Instruction is targeted, and classes are
structured so that everyone in the class is working
for most of the period. Kim is constantly updating
her credentials and incorporating new training
methods that have proven to be effective. And for those in competitive classes, when you’re getting your dog ready for a trial, we simulate show conditions in class, providing a practical run-through that will get you ready for the ring.
If you want your dog to compete in trials,
Kim will get you both ready for the ring.
From Novice to Utility, from a CD title
to an OTCH, if you and your dog
are willing to put in the work, Kim
will provide the training, assess your
performance in the ring, and guide you
as you move from one level to the next.
If your aim is for your dog to become a better pet, Kim will shape the training in that direction, taking time to deal with any problems – destructive chewing, excessive barking, jumping on counters, and so forth – that your dog experiences along the way.
Some people don’t want to compete formally, but do want their dogs to earn the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen certificate. Any dog who completes basic training at Kim’s will have these important skills.
Finally, of course, some people have puppies who need basic socialization.
Dog Sports at Kim’s offers effective, hands-on training at all these levels.
