WHAT IS A DSK DOG?

Dog training can be a lonely business if you try to go it alone. And training by itself is no guarantee; well-intentioned but underqualified dog instructors abound.

Dog Sports at Kim’s is different. And DSK dogs are different.

Walk through the door, and you’ll feel the difference right away. You’ll note that you’re surrounded by people who are clearly serious about training their dogs, but who haven’t lost their sense of humor about their dogs – and themselves. You’ll also sense the common bond of a shared purpose and shared dreams. While some people are working toward advanced AKC titles, and others are simply teaching Rover to mind his manners, everyone shares the goal of helping their dogs become the best they can be.

You’ll find the level of training at DSK to be first rate. Students run the gamut from OTCH handlers – that’s the highest AKC title a dog can achieve – to beginners, and experienced handlers mingle freely with people who are just starting to learn basic heeling. There are different classes for different skill levels, of course, but you’ll also see seasoned trainers helping newcomers, and newcomers unafraid to approach a veteran to ask for help. And in the middle of all this is Kim, offering a suggestion here, making a pointed comment there, encouraging, challenging, demonstrating –  leading her students in the way of success.
DSK dogs also enjoy classes structured for maximum benefit. In traditional classes, everyone in the class focuses on one skill at a time, and a great deal of time is spent waiting and watching other people work. But DSK students usually work continuously throughout the class period, while Kim moves from student to student, providing individual instruction. This teaching approach maximizes learning time and delivers a far richer concentration of instruction than is available in a traditional class setting.
There’s one very simple way to find out what a DSK dog is: Come and meet one! Come sit in on one of our classes. Stay after class and talk to a student or two. We guarantee that it won’t be like any dog class you’ve ever encountered. We think you’ll know, then, that DSK dogs and handlers are different.

But there’s an even better way to learn about DSK dogs. Stop by any major trial and take a look around. Find the DSK dogs and owners you’ve met in class. You’ll find them together in pockets all around the show site. They’ll be watching each other’s dogs perform in the ring, cheering their friends’ winning performances and consoling one another

when a dog’s – or handler’s – performance comes up short.

You’ll be looking, right then, at the DSK community in action. And we think there’s a good chance you’ll want to join us.
